1) While reading these chapters keep track of all the Burmese words you come across. Create a list; on the list write the word, the page, and its definition.
For example: singoung (p. 11) = a foreman in charge of all timber elephants and mahouts in the plantation (Nang is this person.)
2) Also answer the following questions in COMPLETE sentences on a separate piece of paper, or you could copy and paste them into a word document and then answer them:
Chapter 1: Who is Taung Baw and why is he a legendary figure?
Chapter 2: What do you learn about the political situation in Burma from the discussion between Nang and Magwe?
Chapter 3: What qualities does Nick share with his ancestors?
Chapter 4: Why doesn't Nick tell anyone about what happened to him? What does this say about his character?
